During this last year we have all faced emotional, mental and physical challenges. Most of us experienced changes in our daily routines, financial pressures and social isolation which affect our mental health. Now more than ever we need to take the time to bring awareness and support individuals suffering from mental illness.

Your Community Librarians are here to help spread the knowledge of effective and supportive services, such as:

Association for Mental Health and Wellness– www.mhaw.org

National Alliance on Mental Illness– www.nami.org

NYS Mental Health Support Line 1-844-863-9314 or Text 741741

Another way to help understand mental illness is to become a Mental Health First Aider. This program will teach you how to identify the signs and symptoms of mental health distress or substance issues in your community. If you work with the public, it will help you respond effectively during a crisis. Free online classes are offered to all New Yorkers as part of the Thrive NYC initiative.
