Calling All Crystal Lovers!

Happy July, all! Sunstone is here to get you in the summer spirit with its beautiful orange coloring and shimmery inclusions! It truly is a stunning crystal that is typically associated with summertime and sunshine, which is where its name originates from.
Sunstone is a feldspar crystal. This means it is made of abundant minerals found in over 60% of the Earth’s crust. But just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s not unique. Feldspar has been found on the moon and even in meteorites! Oftentimes, feldspar can be created by the Earth out of magma as it cools after a volcanic eruption. Sunstone can also include Hematite and Goethite, which help it to refract light and creates iridescence, or shimmer, when viewed from different angles.
In ancient Greece, sunstone was meant to symbolize the sun god. Many people felt it would bring warmth, happiness, and light to those who possessed a stone. For Native Americans, sunstone was highly treasured as a stone gifted from Mother Earth. Some records show they would bury their dead with small satchels of Sunstone, presumably as a present to the Gods in the afterlife to allow the dead to peacefully cross over. Sunstone represents a light in the darkness, the good moments during bad times, and symbolizes the strength it takes to get through all hard things in life.
