Springerle Cookies

Monday, December 8, 4:00 – 6:00 pm

Held at our Moriches Branch

Pressing pictures into cookie dough with wooden molds is a culinary legacy from German immigrants, including Hessian soldiers hired by Great Britain in 1776 to put down the American rebellion. At war’s end,7,000 Hessians chose to remain here, gifting us with beautiful holiday traditions like the Christmas tree and Springerle cookies, which can double as ornaments. Diane Schwindt shares the love and the lore in this special program. (Open to all.  $10.00 materials fee.)
