Borrowing Privileges
Teachers in the William Floyd School District may apply for a library card, which is valid for one year and provides them with full library privileges, The service year begins on July 1 and runs through June 30 of the following year. Applicants will be asked to show their current William Floyd School District ID.

Big Books
The big book collection at the Library keeps growing! Feel free to call us for a list when planning your curriculum. All titles may be checked out. A small sampling of the over 50 titles includes: Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears, Strega Nona, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, and The Rainbow Fish.

Picture Book Activity Kits
Wonderful for working one-on-one or with small groups of children, each story kit includes one copy of the book, as well as a number of accompaniments to enhance the story.

Teacher Packs
"It's in the Bag!" Teacher packs are offered as a courtesy service for William Floyd School District classrooms and include materials personally chosen by our Children's Librarians. Simply send us your list of requirements (subject, fiction, non-fiction, video, etc.) and we organize your own individual teacher pack for you and your students.
Please allow one week for teacher packs to be created. Teacher packs may be picked up at the Library and borrowed for 21 days. Based on the availability and popularity of certain subjects, staff may need to limit the number of items included.

Assignment Alert
The Community Library's Assignment Alert service allows for school and library services to work together to efficiently meet the needs of our students. Simply by calling the Library and alerting us to a new assignment, you assist us in preparing for your students' needs. With such notice, we are able to gather related print and online materials, ensuring availability to all of your students. Please call the Children's and Parents' Services Department at (631) 399-1511, Ext. 260.

Live Librarian
Be sure to direct your students to the Community Library's Homework Help service online! Students can chat live with a librarian and search for information based on their subject or topic. Available through the school year, Homework Help is great for that really tricky homework problem!

Live Librarian hours:
Monday - Thursday 3 p.m.-11 p.m.
Sunday- 5 p.m.-11 p.m.


Magazines and Newsletters
The Library subscribes to many periodicals and newsletters to keep you informed and up to date! Titles include: Teacher Magazine, Mailbox, Teaching K-8, etc.

Community Library's Newsletter
Your school media specialist receives a copy of the Library's monthly newsletter. Be sure to take a look at it and share our entertaining and educational programs with your students.
